- Time:
- 10:00am
- Location:
- Virginia Zoo, 3500 Granby St., Norfolk
- Description:
- “Plant Conservation Day is a fun way to learn about the importance of plants and help create a unique piece of art in the process,” said Greg Bockheim, the Zoo’s executive director.
Plant Conservation Day activities will provide visitors with information about plant conservation and how plants help protect our environment, and feature Sky Art, a living image formed on the ground and photographed aerially from a lift. People on the ground wear colors that help produce an image when photographed from above, which will be combined with other artwork to form a unique piece of art. This year’s image will feature a tiger stalking through bamboo.
Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to participate. With each adult entry of $15, or $10 per child, the participant receives a Sky Art t-shirt and admission to the Virginia Zoo. The registration form is available at the Zoo Membership Office or at http://www.virginiazoo.org/zoo-happenings/SkyArt.asp.
Proceeds from the event will support plant conservation locally through the Elizabeth River Project (http://elizabethriver.org/), which works to restore the Elizabeth River environment, and internationally through Bamboo of the Americas (http://www.bamboooftheamericas.org/), which works to ensure the sustained viability of native bamboo species throughout the Americas.
